All book illustrations are from this young artist! Gef's mother can recall, as young as age 7 or 8, he would draw "monsters" and cut the paper into unique shapes, making a kind of "card game" with powers noted on the back of each (we live in a Pokemon age); he would carry these "playing cards" with him in a large manila envelope to share with family or friends.

The publication of this book was as much to encourage him in his own artfulness (now he doesn't have to carry the envelope)... as to share his unique idea with others. Conquering your fears can be a dear topic for both adults and children. Read Gef's message to your children today! ________________________________________________________________________________________________ T. F. RICE lives in a small town in Western New York State named Perry with her husband and almost-teenage son, where she works as an accountant during the week. Her short fiction and poetry has been published in several "cross-genre" books, as well as various quarterlies and an anthology. The latest book is number two in a series of "City/Country Poet's Guides"; it is titled SMALL TOWNS ARE NOT SO SMALL. The "City/Country" part of Rice's titles is a tribute to growing up all over the place, with a father in the military, not really being "from" anywhere.

The first "Guide" was written as a tribute to Old Forge, New York, which is a lovely Adirondack town dear to Rice and her family. The books encourage reader participation, offering activities, information and gentle encouragement to write... or simply to "be creative". In her spare time, she also edits The Other Herald, a small monthly literary publication aimed at isolated writers. In 2007, she authored a children's workbook for original thought, THE WIND BEING. Rice is also the author of a book of writing and life exercises. For more about this author, visit http://www.tfrice.com ________________________________________________________________________________________________ VIRGINIA LEE HINES is a poet and essayist, but also an artist at heart. She has been well-schooled in her many creative interests over the years; her work has been published in various monthlies and quarterlies. Having never had a full-length volume of her poetry published, she looks forward to publication in 2009.

Hines and her late husband raised two children. A doting grandmother, she has long been retired to a quiet life in the Rochester, NY area, continues to write about her unique life experiences and observations. Collect all six of her broadsides, released by HVF throughout 2008. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ARTIST INFORMATION: ________________________________________________________________________________________________ JOAN HERRMANN, Photographer and Illustrator, provided her "Nature Tweaked" cover art for T. F. Rice's Small Towns Are Not So Small. Her concentration is nature photography, which she manipulates using various artful, albeit unnatural, processes. The colors/textures in her work are often manipulated/enhanced by geometric forms with a Chinese influence. She is a former member of the Utica Camera Club and a current member of the Artworks Artist Co-op in Old Forge, New York. The Co-op offers several types of note cards bearing her art.

Herrmann's work has been exhibited all over New York state. She is a docent for the Munson-Williams Art Museum. She and her husband Bob moved from Rochester to the Adirondacks 12 years ago. Herrmann's love of nature began as a child, she says, and she enjoys sharing this love through her photography and nature programs for both children and adults. Herrmann says, "I still have the passion to photograph what I see in nature, but I enjoy tweaking nature too." _________________________________________________________________________________________________ MICHAEL SPARLING a.k.a. "Mr. Scribbles!" is an artist and cartoonist from Perry New York. He has illustrated several children's books, including Earlene Crocker's "The Heart Flowers" and T. F. Rice's "My Celebration" (look for in 2009). His art includes large murals, landscapes, abstracts, portraits, and much more.

You might find him traveling to the ends of the earth, for your local event... dazzling children of all ages with creative interpretations of anyone's whimsical scribblings. On http://www.mrscribbles.com, you can visit his online gallery, scribble something (that he will turn into art), even download FREE CLIP ART! _________________________________________________________________________________________________ WHOLESALE ORDERING:
