Chapter 1
Reflexology Concepts DEFINITION
Reflexology is a complementary, biological, integrative health science, through which the body has a chance at an overall health enhancement. Stimulating and energizing reflex points improves communication to each and every gland, organ and part of the body, thus persuading the body to biologically correct, strengthen and reinforce itself. Reflexology is the “secrets of ancient wisdom implanted on the soles of the feet and hands like a template reflecting the whole body. It is an art and science based on the premise that there are zones and reflex areas in the feet and hands that correspond to all body parts. The physical act of applying pressure to these areas results in stress reduction. With stress reduction comes positive physiological changes in the body.”
REFLEXOLOGY IS NOT A BELIEF Reflexology is considered a serious integrative science, focused as a highly specialized body of knowledge. Highly acknowledged as a safe non-invasive complementary health practice.
SCOPE OF PRACTICE We are not doctors. A reflexologist never prescribes, diagnoses, or treats for specific diseases, illnesses or causes. When serious illness is present,
Reflexology complements the services of a licensed medical practitioner. A regular reflexology session is focused on basic reflexology. Many people blend other therapies into the session. If this is part of your practice please educate your client on your chosen method of reflexology therapy. If you are using other modalities (example: Reiki or aromatherapy) with your session, you may need permission from your client first. Not in the scope of practice When you tell a client to drink “Water.' You have just prescribed “Water.” We make suggestions only. Be aware of how you speak to a client. You may say, “Reflexology is a great flusher of toxins. Many of my clients like to drink water after a session to help flush out the toxins.”
