Lighthouse:Shelter Cove, Ca.
Built in 1868 this 43' tall lighthouse was once the tallest in the country. When first lit at Cape Mendocino it had a focal plane hight of 422 feet. In 1891 the Old Point Loma Light closed making Mendocino the tallest.
After being abandoned in 1971 it was moved 35 miles south to Shelter Cove. It is one of only two U.S. lighthouses built of iron plates that are bolted together.
