William Mize attended and graduated from the prestigious Creative Writing Program at San Francisco State University. It was also in San Francisco that he won his first award for writing - his short story "Super Heroes" won the well-respected Bay Guardian Fiction Contest in 1991.
After graduation in 1994, Mize returned to St. Petersburg, Florida but continued his education, studying the mystery novel with his current mentor, Macavity Award-Winning mystery writer Deborah Adams, creator of the best-selling Jesus Creek Mystery series (All The Dark Disguises; All The Deadly Winters).
In 1997, his first novel, Resurrection Angel, was chosen by noted mystery writer, critic and editor Robert J. Randisi as a finalist in the St. Martin's Press - Private Eye Writers of America Best First Novel of The Year Contest.
In 2000, taking advantage of the current Print-On-Demand technology, Resurrection Angel was self-published through Writer's Press, an imprint of iUniverse.com.
In 2001, Mize made publishing history when Resurrection Angel was nominated by the Private Eye Writers of America for one of their highest honors, The Shamus Award for Best First Novel of The Year, making it the first Print on Demand book ever to be nominated for a major publishing award. When it was out of print, rare and hard to find iUniverse copies of Resurrection Angel were considered collectors items by mystery fans. Some websites are asking upwards of $80 for a single copy of Resurrection Angel.
In 2006, Mize fired all his agents and decided to reenter the world of Print on Demand publishing; using the website Lulu.com to produce the finished product.
William Mize currently lives in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he is at work on the next book in the planned twelve book series.
